Lightroom Classic or Lightroom CC?

In the 2017 Lightroom update,  Adobe announced that there were now two versions of Lightroom: Lightroom Classic CC and Lightroom CC. Adobe, at this stage anyway, are committed to developing both applications. You really do need to decide which workflow suits you best as it is not recommended to have both versions on your computer.

Lightroom Classic is designed for people who work mostly on their computer.

*  The original photos are stored on your computer or on hard drives
*  Most editing is done on your computer
*  You are responsible for backing up your images
*  This has the greatest in-depth processing options at present
*  You can share photos to the cloud but these are low resolution copies called smart previews – OK for sharing on facebook etc

Lightroom CC is a cloud based workflow, designed for people who want to be able to access their full resolution images from anywhere and on any of their devices.

*  Original photos are stored in the cloud which is why 1TB storage comes with this plan
*  It suits people who often take photos on their mobile phones
*  Suits people who want to edit and share their photos on the go.
*  Photos are automatically backed up to the Cloud
*  The first version does not have all the editing options that are available in Lightroom Classic. Adobe’s plan is to have parity between the two Lightroom applications but they are not there yet.
*  At the moment you cannot create books, Slideshows, use the map features or create panoramas.
